Living the squishy lifestyle

Meet Sulhelka, level 37 Frost Mage. She was born just a few days after patch 2.3, and entered retirement before patch 2.3.2. Up until a couple of days ago, she was quietly spending her days stuck at level 32 in Stormwind.

One day, i was chatting in guild about alts, and it came up that both my main and a highest level alt are plate-wearing tanks. This left me with the bug to try and keep raising my mage, but my recent entry into T5 raiding meant i’ve had to spend most of my time farming mats for enchants, crafted gear, and consumables.

Now that my gold situation has become a bit more stable, i picked her up again, and made 5 levels in 2 days. I have to say, i’m having a blast with the character. The amount of control that frost allows is great, and with frost nova, blink and ice block, it’s fairly easy to escape bad pulls. AoE means that there are some quests that i can finish in 5 minutes with just a couple of pulls.

For professions, i chose tailoring and skinning. It’s amazing how good tailoring is at providing useful gear, and from what i’ve read, it’s only going to get better. Skinning has proven to be a great source of money, especially when combined with AoE grinding… just grab a group of beasts, kill them, skin and repeat.

Overall, i am enjoying the class, and look forward to taking this toon to 70.

  1. My only other level 70 is a Draenei frost mage (Aksana on Drenden). Frost starts slow but really starts to blossom when you get enough points to max out frostbite, shatter, and the damage and crit-related talents. And once you get ice lance at level 66 and learn to time it to land simultaneously with a frost bolt on a frozen target…it just doesn’t get any better than that. It’s a fun playstyle for soloing, instances/raiding, and PvP. And yeah tailoring is the way to go. I just finished the third piece of the Frozen Shadoweave Set. (Hint: Start making shadowcloth the moment you can survive Shadowmoon Valley so you’ll have some or all of the set ready when you hit 70, unless you want to buy the cloth off the AH.)
